Great perspective of "systems" at play that are more dimensional than a simple economic view of the haves and have nots. You lay out a foundation of beliefs that fit "America" but you embed the beliefs with the complexity of the tension we all feel in our bones on a comparison to others. Remember Shakespeare said, " Judgements are odious". This is deeper than an individual psyche, but it illuminates the power and pain of our individual experience and how we all feel caught in the web.
